Things to do in Craigleith, Ontario

Craigleith is located on the shores of Georgian Bay between Collingwood and Thornbury.  This lovely little community is known for its proximity to Blue Mountain and Georgian Bay.  Within Craigleith, you will find a variety of shorelines, a provincial park, trails and a dense sense of history.  While Craigleith is small, there are a number of great things to do in the area.

Georgian Trail

The Georgian Trail stretches 34 kilometres between Collingwood and Meaford.  Formerly, the Georgian trail was a railway route connecting the small towns along the way.  Now, the Georgian trail is a beautiful trail used for walking and biking.  The trail has many access points between Collingwood and Meaford, with Craigleith being one of them.  The stretch of trail in Craigleith is particularly scenic as it gives glimpses of Georgian Bay.

While not as vast as some of its neighbouring beaches, Northwinds Beach is one of the most desirable beaches in The Blue Mountains area.  Northwinds Beach is dotted with a number of sandy inlets making it ideal for a day of lounging on the beach and water activities.  Along the beach you will find a playground, bathroom facilities and picnic tables.

Scenic Caves

Scenic Caves are located a short distance from Craigleith and are a popular destination to explore.  While Scenic Caves are known for its expansive caves, its more than just a cave system.  Here you will find plenty of hiking trails, a suspension bridge, gemstone mining, mini golf and much more.

Craigleith Provincial Park

Craigleith Provincial Park sits on the shale shorelines of Georgian Bay in Craigleith.  The park is home to a beautiful campground popular amongst those looking to explore Blue Mountain, Collingwood and Wasaga Beach.  While camping is a popular option, day access is available as well.  Craigleith Provincial Park is ideal for water activities, fishing and watching the sunset.

Blue Mountain is an all seasons adventure resort located just a short distance from Craigleith.  While Blue Mountain is most known for its alpine skiing, it really is a premier, year-round destination.  Blue Mountain offers a number of dining and shopping options, as well as unlimited outdoor activities.  Some popular activities at Blue Mountain include, hiking, mountain biking and treetop adventures.  You’ll also find a private beach nearby, spas and a beautiful village to wander around.

Craigleith Heritage Depot

In the heart of Craigleth, you’ll find the Craigleith Heritage Depot.  The Heritage Depot is situated along the Georgian Trail and across from Northwinds Beach.  Dating back to the 1800’s, this location was formerly the Craigleith train depot, making it a unique stop.  To preserve the history of the area, here you will find a museum, town archives and a public library.
